The classic first leg of every Namibian road trip — 4.5–5 hours of good tarmac north.
Namibia is self-drive country and this is the driveway: excellent B1 tar the whole way to the Andersson (Okaukuejo, east) or Galton (west) gates, with fuel, bakery stops and warthog-crossed towns (Otjiwarongo, Outjo) along the route. Hire 2WD works for Etosha itself; 4×4 or high-clearance is better for Damaraland combos. Buses and shuttles reach Outjo/Tsumeb for the car-less.

**Never drive at night** — kudu and cattle on the road are the country’s biggest travel hazard. Fuel every 200 km by rule; stations close early in small towns.
