The classic 5–6 h safari-van run across the Rift Valley — cheapest way to the Mara.
The road is tarmac all the way to Narok and mostly tarmac onward to the Sekenani/Talek gates, though the final stretch deteriorates and is slow after rain. Most visitors take a pre-booked shared tour van or 4×4 with a driver-guide (often bundled into package safaris); independent travellers can matatu to Narok and negotiate a transfer or park gate pickup. The route drops down the Rift Valley escarpment at Great Rift viewpoint — stop for the view, guard your bags at the crowded stops.
