North of the Equator the landscape turns arid — doum palms, volcanic kopjes and a lifeline river that pulls every animal in the reserve each afternoon. Samburu pairs naturally with Buffalo Springs across the river and Shaba to the east on one ticket, and the community conservancies (Westgate, Kalama) run walking safaris and star-bed camps you will not find further south.

What to pack

It is hot, dry country: sun hat, 3+ litres of water per day on drives, light long-sleeved layers, and a power bank — camps here are small and power can be solar.

Park fees

Roughly USD 70–80 per adult day in high season (less for citizens and low season), shared with Buffalo Springs on the same ticket. Rates change — confirm with the county or your operator.

Wildlife safety

Standard vehicle discipline applies; riverbeds are elephant corridors, so give herds the right of way and never approach on foot.
